The TONG BAI FOUNDATION is a non-profit asso­ci­ation based in Mae Sapok (Chi­ang Mai), Thailand.

The foundation’s mis­sion is to help secure the long-term future of Asi­an ele­phants, whose hab­it­at and wel­fare are increas­ingly threatened by eco­lo­gic­al, social, and eco­nom­ic challenges.

The FOUNDATION imple­ments prac­tic­al pro­jects aimed at ensur­ing ele­phants can live in a spe­cies-appro­pri­ate and dig­ni­fied way. These include nat­ur­al hab­it­ats with­in social herds, healthy and bal­anced nutri­tion, veter­in­ary care, and a respect­ful rela­tion­ship between humans and anim­als. Par­tic­u­lar emphas­is is placed on mod­ern anim­al wel­fare stand­ards, suf­fi­cient free­dom of move­ment, and liv­ing con­di­tions that are as nat­ur­al as possible.

The Tong Bai Found­a­tion raises its fund­ing through dona­tions, spon­sor­ship pro­grammes, and sup­port­ing mem­ber­ships, pro­jects in Thai­l­and are spe­cific­ally fun­ded, cre­at­ing sus­tain­able pro­spects for both ele­phants and loc­al com­munit­ies. The Tong Bai Found­a­tion in Thai­l­and receives sup­port from the Ger­man asso­ci­ation Tong-Bai Ele­phant e. V. and the Swiss asso­ci­ation Tong-Bai Ele­phant Switzerland.
